It’s Spring and you rather be out in the sun strolling through the Arnold Arboretum admiring what Mother Nature has to offer! Who wants to waste a precious day organizing stuff?I don’t?Well, maybe I do but that’s because it's what I do, so you don’t have to!I get it, we’re all busy and everything else will always come before organizing your office, your kid's closet, or even that pesky junk drawer you dig through every-single-night looking for a pen that never writes -- you know what I’m talking about? And since I’ve been doing this for a reeeeally long time; I know you are neatly stacking a pile (let’s face it, it's three piles) of unopened mail and bills or you’re completely overwhelmed and shoving everything into drawer never to be seen again.Well, I’m here to tell you it’s A-OKAY![But I’m also all about tough-love, so I’m here for a little butt-kicking, too!]So, today I’m going to share with you five fabulous ways you can tackle the mess and more importantly regain clarity and control of your mind and space.Ready?

  1. Let’s get real?

Honesty is your ally in the game of decluttering, so let’s get real, shall we? Getting rid of stuff may sound pretty scary but it pays (sometimes, literally!) to let go of what no longer serves you so we can make room for the things we want.  I encourage you to take a hard look at each space with a critical eye and ask: “Do I love it, do I need it, or does it make me happy?” If two of those answer are NO! Let it go! In this case you have three options: If it’s broken or outdated - throw it out, if someone else can use it - donate it, and lastly make a little cash by taking advantage of stores like Revolve and Buffalo Exchange.

  1. Your Secret Weapon:

Have you heard about this amazing person who literally lives to make your life a snap? If you haven’t you’re missing out; they’re called Virtual Assistants. This person can literally change your life and your business. They free your time so you can do the things that really matter. Their duties vary from setting up appointments, manage your inbox and email campaigns, the list goes on! If you can’t continue to grow your business, you want a VA.

  1. The Focusing game

FOCUS, Focus, focus is probably the most important aspect of any busy day.  Did you know that those who keep their desks clean optimize their productivity to up to sixty percent? Yes, no joke! Keeping the surface of your desk clear is imperative to increase your mental-game.  Remember, your desk surface is not for storage, only keep the items you really need: Your computer, a pad of paper, a pen and of course a picture of your furry friend. Keep a recycling bin next to your desk so you can discard paperwork immediately, color coordinating your three most important folders and keep them readily available.

  1. Rejuvenate

Being that you’re a busy entrepreneur who takes on the world every.single.day you need a space where you can feel good again.  Which space is this you ask? It’s your bedroom! Here think minimalistic: A bed, dresser, and night stands. In addition, you should have items you absolutely love and that inspire stillness and calm. Make sure you bring in organizational pieces that are aesthetically pleasing, like a storage ottoman, a beautiful jewelry or watch case and a timeless tray that collects your loose change and small items.

  1. Food for the soul

Why do we always gather in the kitchen? I’ll tell you why? Because food is our universal language, it feeds the soul. Whether you cook or not somehow we all gather in this space. Here are some ways you can make your kitchen speak to you. Discard old and unmatched tupperware. Follow by getting rid of any appliance you haven’t used in the last six months. Finally, only keep in your kitchen plates, glasses, and cutlery you use daily; plus a set for dinner guests.  The rest should be donated or stored (don’t forget to label them so they’re easy to find). And that’s it!I told you it was easy...Now, you’re fully equipped to tackle every nook-and-cranny of your home and if ya need an additional kick in the pants, here’s my handy-dandy checklist to help you out!And remember, it doesn’t have to be done all in one day. One thing I can promise you; is that it feels damn (oops, did I say that?) good once you’ve done it.Still overwhelmed? Never worry that’s what we’re here for. Happy Spring cleaning! photo credit: jillianklaffhomes.com
